Mwenya B. Kabwe is a Zambian-born, South African-based theatre maker, performer, creative researcher, and process-design facilitator. Mwenya is currently lecturing at the Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies at the University of Cape Town. Mwenya has been producing original stage works as well as collective collaborations since 2007, presenting it all across South Africa as well as abroad. Her publications include ‘Astronautus Afrikanus: Performing African Futurism in Acts of Transgression: Contemporary Live Art in South Africa’, ‘Prompts for Future Africa’ on the companion website to the book ‘Imagined Theatres’, and ‘Mobility, Migration and ‘Migritude’ in Afrocartography’ to name a few.
Most recently, Mwenya has been co-curating Unrehearsed Futures, a transnational conversation series out of Mumbai.
